Tai Kwun heritage department’s Gender & Space exhibition revisits the compound’s history from 1841 to 1941 during which the site was Victoria Prison. Hidden or missing from historical representation, women played a crucial role within the prison and in the city.
Gender & Space explores the lives of these invisible women – the hidden traces that exist within a historic place of power and masculinity. It sheds light on the city’s history, revealing gaps in historical perspectives, and seeking to convey that gender identity, but also identity at large, is complex and ever-changing.
We were thrilled to collaborate with the Tai Kwun Heritage Department’s curatorial team to produce a promotional video for the exhibition for their digital channels and outdoor screens. Drawing inspiration from the rare archival material on display, the unique exhibition design, and the communal space created for conversations, the promotional film gives audiences an enticing glimpse of ‘Gender & Space’.
